Set within a wooded lakeside site near Sudbury, Lake Ridge House is a custom designed lakehouse built as a year‑round retreat that responds closely to its surroundings. The design brings together high‑performance building principles and biophilic strategies, with an emphasis on daylight, views, and connection to the outdoors.
The home is organized to frame views of the lake and surrounding landscape while maintaining privacy from neighbouring properties. A bumped‑out living area projects toward the water and is defined by large areas of glazing that draw light deep into the interior. Living spaces change in character throughout the day and across seasons, reinforcing an ongoing relationship with the site. Operable windows, shaded outdoor areas, balconies, and enclosed three‑season spaces extend living areas beyond the building envelope.
Material choices reinforce the home’s relationship to its setting through a limited exterior palette of wood and glass. Interior finishes are simple and restrained, creating a consistent backdrop for daily life. Exterior materials are selected for durability and long‑term performance in the northern climate. Structural and envelope strategies are integrated early to balance energy performance with spatial needs.
Sustainability is addressed through core architectural decisions, including massing, orientation, daylighting, ventilation, and durability. The result is a contemporary lakehouse designed to support year‑round use, with a clear relationship to its environment and a focus on comfort and performance.
