Located in downtown Espanola, this adaptive reuse project transforms a former fitness facility into a vibrant community café and creative hub for local youth. Designed as a welcoming after-work or school destination, the space provides opportunities to gather, learn, create, and connect through coffee, snacks, workshops, and art programming.

The renovation reimagines the existing interior through a warm, Scandinavian-inspired palette of natural wood tones, simple materials, and carefully considered lighting. A new café bar serves as the social heart of the project, creating a comfortable and inviting environment that brings an elevated hospitality experience to the main street of a Northern Ontario community. Beyond the café, a dedicated painting studio supports classes, creative programming, and community events, extending the building's role as a place for learning and self-expression.

Accessibility was a key driver of the design, with barrier-free circulation, accessible clearances, and a universal washroom integrated throughout the space. The project demonstrates how thoughtful interior architecture and adaptive reuse can revitalize existing buildings, support community development, and create meaningful gathering places for people of all ages.
